Kicking Off 2021 with a New Syntiant Family Member - The NDP120

First of all, I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year.

2020 had a lot of challenges, and I am very grateful for the continued support from our employees, customers, and investors. We made great progress, and this year is off to a fantastic start with the launch of the latest Syntiant family member: the NDP120.

Over the holidays, I reflected on last year here at Syntiant. I was also happy to be spending some time reading again. In doing so, I ran into the following quote from Donald A. Norman, taken from “The Design of Everyday Things” that I’d like to share with you: “Original ideas are the easy part. Actually producing the idea as a successful product is what is hard.” It made me think about Syntiant, where there are no lack of ideas (or opinions, for that matter... :-). But above all, we pride ourselves in execution. I am proud of the team for navigating through a tough 2020, taping out new products, creating software, and exciting our customers.

Yesterday’s announcement introducing our second generation NDP120 deep learning processor for audio and sensor apps is testimony to the hard work of our team. Syntiant's line of Neural Decision Processors (NDPs) now includes two tensor computation cores providing superior energy efficiencies in neural computation. Using the Syntiant® Core 2™ deep learning architecture, the NDP120 applies neural processing to run multiple applications simultaneously with minimal battery power consumption. We took years of real world, low-power edge deep learning experience to develop this architecture into a scalable design optimized to bring neural processing to power constrained deployments. In plain English, we want AI to be pervasive and unobtrusive. It will just make everyday experiences better.

For those of you that have been tracking processor development, we see the NDP120 as our 386. We have gone from running just one neural network to being able to run multiple neural networks in parallel much like what Intel introduced back in 1985 with the 386. (OK, I am dating myself.) The Syntiant Core 2 will be our starting point to bring flexible neural networking to just about any product.

We believe that artificial intelligence will be the bridge between people and machines, and ultimately create better connections between people and people. Syntiant is in a perfect position to lead the way. I appreciate everyone’s ongoing support!

Here’s to hoping that 2021 will be better than 2020.
